Narendra Modi became PM of India on 26th May, 2014. For many, it was the most glorious moment in history of independent India. I was among one of them. I have never waited for any result in my life as I waited for the result on 16th may, 2014. I was confident of Modi leading the government but never thought of an absolute majority.
With this majority also came responsibility. However after one year, I think Modi may fail as PM of India. I wish this never to happen but the way things have gone so far I can see a well placed strategy by forces opposing Modi. Let us try to analyze few key reasons which may lead to Modi's popularity taking a dip. These reasons finally may lead to downfall of Modi in coming years.
1. Media: The fourth pillar of democracy plays a big part in changing the mind set of people these days. I am talking of both visual and print media. It is very easy to spread a false news, debate over it on news channels and then giving apology in a corner that no one sees. People will remember the main news and once the impression is printed on the minds of normal people than it is very difficult to erase the same. Media, the way they implicate people through Kangaroo courts, must be made to apologize the same way. First page headlines with apology or prime time apology on news channels must be made a norm.
Also, if for any case a charge-sheet has been entered or the case is under investigation then media must have self censorship on the issue.
2. Impatient youth: The most beautiful gift Modi has given to this country is involvement of youth in politics. This is not my concern that these youth are against Modi or with Modi. However, with youth one needs to be careful.
A lot of youth (I can easily say majority) do not have any knowledge of history of independent India. They do not even know what happened during Mandal commission's opposition. Emergency, Lohia movement, DMK movement etc. is something most have just heard off but don't know anything about it. As a result of this half cooked knowledge, youth start forwarding stories (for or against) on social channels (Facebook, twitter, their circles) and create a impression. I personally know a lot of people who have good influence in their social circles and they give away half cooked stories that people buy.
Youth also needs fast results. They need jobs. I am sure MAKE IN INDIA will generate a lot of jobs. I also know that GOI creates a lot of opportunity but how many of us know the right channels to approach these jobs? How many of us know that one can apply in a govt job even at 40 years of age? Modi and colleagues must spend a lot of time taking to these youth about job opportunities.
3. Minority & Religious sentiments: Modi has always been criticized by opposition, specially congress about 2002. Nobody talks about number of riots between 1947 and 2002 and between 2002 and 2014. Gujarat has seen the most peaceful one decade during Modi's time as CM.
One area where I know conspiracy will be hatched was the so called minority rights. During the last one year, the normal theft or ransacking was given religious touch. Whether it was Delhi church attack or nun rape, every minority attack was publicized as attack on minorities. Nothing was proved and while investigations were on, everyone started attacking central govt. Modi govt has to be on it's toes all the time if they want to show that this govt is for Indians. Don't let rumors spread like wild fire in this country. Minorities must feel assured that this govt is for everybody.
4. So called intelligentsia of country: A lot of Political Pundits in this country are known for their biased views on socialism, Marxism, Communism, Nehruvism etc. Also BJP has been branded as a right wing party (After all somebody needs to be right in otherwise everything wrong, pun intended). When these biased minds debate or try to present their point of view, they, most of the times twist or selectively pick words for their benefit. Context somehow is forgotten but words are taken literally. Modi needs a very very strong network of spokespersons (loaded with knowledge and facts) who can counter every single wrong word reaching the normal public of this country. This intellectual terrorism may hinder this country for many many future years.
5. Opposing for the sake of opposition: One of the biggest challenges Modi is facing today is stiff opposition in and outside Parliament. In Gujarat, opposition was negligible. When congress got only 44 seats to become second largest party, I think complacency found it's way in BJP headquarters. However, Modi must have realized by now, that opposition will oppose. Opposition (in this case congress) will try to take credit of every scheme as theirs and will spread false news to tell people that this govt is against them.
Modi must find all rats hiding in different departments and agencies so that correct info reaches PMO. Don't give people any space. Crush the wrong things. Hire best people, load spokespersons with facts. Argue cases on facts.
6. Within BJP: Due to lot of factors now, elections issues are no more local, state or central level. Delhi is one of the examples where one of the most important issues during elections was MCD work. This is where Modi needs unconditional support from BJP. Amit Shah has to make sure that where-ever BJP Councillors are working, they work without corruption, without prejudice and total commitment to the cause.
Any loose talk at any level, should be dealt with discipline. Discussions must be done in house before BJP interacts with media. For every issue, BJP must delegate a team to talk to media. Not everybody should be allowed to discuss anything.
7. Anti India forces within India: Over a period of time on the name of freedom of speech, a lot of hate speeches go unnoticed in this country. People who give religious or political speeches sometimes talk about things against India. A precedent should be set for future generations that anybody who speaks, thinks or acts against India must be arrested as a traitor. BJP must try to bring a strong rule on this. Anybody who opposes the bill automatically looses public sympathy. This rule must be applicable from Kashmir to Kerala.
8. Remain a party with a difference: I have never seen BJP eager to get into power. I understand that nothing can be achieved sitting in opposition but make sure that BJP sets example for others. We should never forget that Vajpayee lost majority for the sake of one vote in Lok-sabha. Lets keep the flame burning. Lets try to follow footsteps of great leaders who have given vision to the party called BJP. Let us try to spread that vision within youth of this country.
